Honorable Mention The Hook-Up Plove (Peggy Eldridge-Love) Jarring vibrations beat the sunrise confusing the birds on first watch. Heroes with buzz saws in insulated coveralls and crap kicker boots climb out of cherry pickers onto the frail corspes of wind whipped oaks, willows and elms. Hasty prayers rise for these selfless wonders as intertwining wires pop alive and dance their double-dare, and, for a while at least, we are grateful for their nimble gifts of connection. We hail their praises at six and eleven until lights are restored and our hands are once more warm. Satiated, amnesia sets in and an outcry builds, annoyed now by their thoughtless predawn vibrations. |
